10 School Holiday Snack Ideas – sweet & savoury

10 school holiday snack ideas

We are already into our second week of school holidays here and I feel like I’m constantly in the kitchen producing food for the hungry hoads so I put the call out to some foodie blogger friends for school holiday snack ideas, especially ones that the kids can make themselves.  I become a bit more lax on the healthy front during holidays (there’s been a fair amount of ice cream consumed lately!) so I’ve selected a mix of healthy and treat recipes, everything in moderation right!?

Here are just a few of the yummy suggestions…

Hokey Pokey Biscuits

The lovely Lucy from Bake Play Smile has an amazing library of recipes but these easy to make 4 Ingredient Hokey Pokey Biscuits look like a great school holiday snack and a good way to get the kids in the kitchen too.

Not only is Lucy fantastic with the sweet she’s got savoury covered too with these Little Mini Quiches with Bacon, Egg & Cheese

My friend Kim from Zonkt Designs has a great 3 Ingredient Scone recipe that is dairy free, sugar free and egg free which would be great for winter morning teas don’t you think?

The kids would love helping out making Zonkt Designs Chocolate Joys with Sprinkles I’m sure, and eating them!!  Special treat time!

Krissy from Pretty Wee Things is super healthy and always comes up with yummy ways to share the health around.  I can vouch for the deliciousness of these Salted Caramel Bliss Balls – my girls really liked them too.

As I said before we have been indulging on a lot of ice cream lately – because we only had one day of winter here and it feels like we are on summer (ok maybe Spring) holidays instead of winter. I was delighted when Krissy suggested this Dairy Free (and refined sugar free) Ice Cream Cake that we might make up here in the North soon but you might want to pin for later!

Who doesn’t love a sausage roll? I really like the look of Sammie from The Annoyed Thyroid Vegetarian ones (Thermomix recipe) for something a bit different.

The kids will love to make Sammies Top Banana Cupcakes, old school lollies right there!

From me I thought I’d share a couple of easy no bake options.  My Banana Breakfast Smoothie fills them up and gets them out playing again in no time.

Finally, keeping it raw and easy why not get as creative as you like with cucumbers? All you need to do is slice them down the middle and scoop out the seeds (set them aside for Cucumber Lemonade, gin optional or necessary depending on how you are viewing the holidays) then fill the cucumber “baguettes” with peanut butter, cream cheese & saltanas (remember ants on a log?), ham & cheese what ever takes your/their fancy.  Also, I find kids like anything on a skewer (depending on their tendancies you may or may not need to cut off the spiky bits) so we load them up with vegies and baby bits of cheese. Quick, easy and a bit of healthy fun.

Do you feel like a short order cook in the school holidays? Do you have any go to favourite snacks? Do your kids like to cook /  be in the kitchen?

I can’t believe how often kids want to feed. Can you? Blimey, it does my head in. Some fresh ideas are always appreciated. We’re big on milkshakes here and the sausage rolls look perfect for a winter snack!

I have made those hokey pokey biscuits from Bake Play Smile and they were fantastic. An absolute hit. Thanks for the reminder, I will have to make them for the school’s election cake stall 🙂 #teamIBOT
