Hummus, crackers & veggie sticks

Hummus is a staple in our house.  For some unknown reason I was obsessed with hummus and lavosh biscuits when I was pregnant. Once I had the baby, both times but with the first one I also craved lamb cutlets and the second one lemonade, anyway, I’d sit on the couch with my hummus and a trashy mag while feeding the baby and then they both must have got the taste for it because they are now also obsessed with “hummus and bikkies” which is great as it’s a really healthy snack but we’ve switched from lavosh to rice crackers now.

Since getting the Thermomix I alway make my own as it’s dead easy and I feel I have to justify the expense but given our family obsession it makes it more economical anyway – husband polishes off a whole bowl most days after work before dinner (I have to hide it from him now so there is something for the rest of us).

You can also make it in an ordinary blender but the recipe below specifies the Thermomix method.

As an aside, how do you spell hummus, hommus, hommous….

  • 1 400 g can chickpeas, drained but keep the liquid from the can
  • 2 Tbsp chickpea can liquid
  • dash olive oil
  • juice 1/2 big lemon
  • 1 Tbsp tahini
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp Himalayan rock salt

  1. Put all ingredients into the bowl and mix 10 - 15 seconds / speed 5 or until you get your desired consistency
