Magic Monkey Fruit

We are having an at home day today as the holidays, so far, have been quite busy with trampolining, science experiments camp, visiting friends, learning to ride the bikes without training wheels (finally!) so we needed some down time.  As a way to drag the girls away from “The Voice Kids” which is on repeat at the moment (thankfully we are having a reprieve from Frozen!) this was a fun thing to do.  We found the recipe in a book that was given to us called No More Biscuits by Paeony Lewis (see my review here if you like) and thought that we’d give the Magic Monkey Banana recipe at the back of the book a whirl.

We used bananas and strawberries and did it outside as it has the potential to be a bit messy (and that is no fun for me!)

You will need to melt the chocolate first, any chocolate bits you prefer and melt them either in the Thermomix, on the cooktop or microwave, you choose.  If you are using nuts, I used a handful of almonds and walnuts, just crush them in the Thermomix on speed 7 / 5 seconds or in the blender.

Before we started, all neat & tidy…

Magic Monkey Bananas

  • 2 bananas
  • handful of strawberries
  • 100g chocolate
  • 2 Tbsp sprinkles or crushed nuts for a healthier option
  • You will also need paddle pop sticks (or similar) and a freezer proof plate or tray lined with baking paper if you are going to freeze them (we didn't today it was cold enough outside for the chocolate to firm up pretty quickly on it's own)

  1. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over hot water, in the microwave or Thermomix
  2. Peel the 2 bananas and cut in half, wash the strawberries
  3. Push the paddle pop sticks into the cut end of each half of the banana and you can do the same into the strawberries if you like or keep them intact
  4. Hold the stick and dip or roll the fruit in the melted chocolate, you may need to use a spoon to help
  5. Shake the sprinkles and/or nuts over the chocolate covered banana
  6. Place the fruit on the sheet of baking paper and repeat until all done
  7. Optional - put the plate of fruit in the freezer for at least an hour (if you want icy cold ones)
  8. Once all set and hard take out and enjoy
Ta Da! The end result, they lasted on the plate for about 5 seconds before being gobbled down, sprinkles won out over nuts!magic-monkey-fruit-end-result-web
