Book Club – we read “Cutting for Stone” we ate raw cacao & coffee bites

We’ve had a long gap between book clubs this time, life, school holidays, winter illnesses etc but we finally met tonight! Yay!

We read, although I have a confession, I didn’t, shock, horror, I know!  I wish I had and I do usually read all the books but for some reason I just didn’t get around to this one, launching this website is my excuse, it’s been all consuming but I’m back on track now, I hope!  Anyway, the others that did read it really enjoyed it.

This is the Book Depository’s Description
Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon. Orphaned by their mother’s death and their father’s disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Moving from Addis Ababa to New York City and back again, “Cutting for Stone” is an unforgettable story of love and betrayal, medicine and ordinary miracles–and two brothers whose fates are forever intertwined.

My friends said it was a bit hard to get into at the beginning but after about a third of the way through they were hooked. They thought it was beautifully written and a sad story.  I don’t want to give too much more away if you are planning on reading it. If you have read it what did you think?

If you want to buy it you can through The Book Depository here.

Our next book is going to be;

the invention of wings book

Now on to the food….

We ate these deliciously moorish raw cacao & coffee bites the recipe from is from The Organised Housewifecheck it out here, sooooo good!  To get the hearts I just used a cookie cutter (after it had been in the fridge for a few hours) and then rolled the left over bits into balls, you wouldn’t want any of it to go to waste and  you won’t be able to stop at one, believe me!

I also took along the excess of Chai Tea Biscuits that I made today too.  They were given the tick of approval by the ladies.

Have you read any good books lately?

    The food looks delicious!! I want to join your book club. 🙂 I’ve finally gotten round to reading ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ and loved it, I haven’t read a book that quickly in so long, not since having my eldest daughter. I really want to see the movie now. 🙂
