“BE&S Homemade Christmas” – DIY gifts, decorations and food

wreath-final-webI’m a bit late in the day getting this post out but if you need some last minute inspiration for teachers gifts or decorations here are some of the things that we’ve been doing at the BE&S HQ over the last few weeks in preparation for the end of the school year and Christmas.

Jars of make your own Christmas biscuits with the ingredients of my Oaty Chia Biscuits in some (with the recipe halved so the ingredients fitted into the jars and of course Christmas M&Ms added!), some had Create Make Bakes Easy Christmas Cookies ingredients which are yum and a big jar had Choc Chip Quick Bread ingredients.  I found the kid sized Christmas spatulas at Aldi and typed up the instructions, covered the lids with fabric and tied them up with a ribbon and a Christmas decoration.  Easy, quick, still thoughtful I think. We gave these to the dance teachers and have some lined up for the “BFF’s” too.

I was inspired by Sonia at Life Love & Hiccups when she did Salted Caramel Pretzel Bark, oh yes, it’s a thing.  I made it and gifted it to friends who had us over for dinner and to Miss 7’s lovely Speech Therapist.  Of course I had to taste test it just to be sure, amazing!

Then I really pulled out all the stops and made a Christmas wreath, oh yes, I did.  Way too much time on my hands perhaps you think? Actually, not at the moment, but this has been in the making for quite some time and it was like therapy doing it in front of the TV at night.  I gave it to my Mum!

Earlier in the year I discovered how easy it was to make Chia Seed Jam and thought that little pots of that with some lovely teas and the obligatory Christmas decoration would also make a sweet present if you pardon the pun.  Click through for my recipes for Vanilla, Maple & Blueberry and Raspberry Chia Jams they are really healthy, really easy and really yummy!

I even did some blatant self promotion on the jars and made my own labels (well I am trying to grow the blog so am getting the name out there!)

Still looking for some gift ideas?  While not homemade I thought these would also make great presents. I found them both at a local homeware shop and I’m totally loving them.

The Hope in a Box has a beautiful story to it and I’m just loving these candles, I want the “I’m actually a mermaid” one!   Do you like any?  They are by Damselfly.

Finally, this is homemade just not by me but we had a fantastic Christmas party lunch last weekend hosted by the very talented Ilana of Chasing Issy.  On every ones place setting was a necklace for the ladies or a wristband (don’t want to say bracelet) for the boys.  What a gorgeous idea don’t you think?  She is also selling DIY necklaces in these gorgeous jars or in pouches if you need something for a girl in your life (more on her FB here)

Do you do DIY?  Got any good little gift ideas?  Keen to share?  Any here that take your fancy?

Hi Vick – We did the sang choy bau thing this week – and everyone LOVED it!!! Will be a regular – and also the ten minute beef stir fry was great – did it with noodles and the gang (who sometimes turn their noses up at stir fries) gave it a big thumbs up!
    thank you!

So many fab ideas! I am in love with the jam! I’ve got chia seeds in the cupboard, because they seemed a bit hipster and I love me some hipster stuff. But I’ve done nothing with them! Totes onto the jam now! x

That salted caramel bark looks delicious! I do love DIY, I use to make chocolates as Christmas pressies, but haven’t done that for a few years now, will have to rectify that.
