Healthy Banana Smoothie

The other morning we all slept in, it was the Monday morning after a weekend of sleepovers where not much sleep was had. (That’s the worst part of sleepovers don’t you think, grumpy people for the next 3 days?)  I had little food in the house and we were running late for school, you know the story….!  It called for a breakfast on the go so we whipped up this healthy, protein rich Banana Breakfast Smoothie.  It got the tick from Miss E, blank refusal from the fussy one but we are not pandering to her anymore so that doesn’t count and I had it when I got back from my first Body Pump class in 6 months, I needed it!  It was good, the drink and the work out!

Miss E also wanted it for afternoon tea so this type of smoothie is a great versatile, filling drink for any time of the day really.

I made it in the Thermomix but a good blender will do the trick too.

Banana & Nut Breakfast Smoothie

What you need:

1 C, 260 g greek yoghurt (or coconut yoghurt if that’s what you like)

1 ripe banana

2 Tbsp almond or peanut butter

1 Tbsp milk, whatever type you like

1 Tbsp flaxseed (linseed)

2 Tbsp honey

3/4 C, 100g ice

What you do:

Whizz it all together except the ice in the Thermomix Speed 9 / 10 secs then add the ice and blitz again for for 40 seconds slowing increasing the speed up to 9.  In a blender follow the same just take it to your highest speed.

This is an easy way of getting some extra protein into the kids at the start of the day and keeping them full until break time.  As an after work out drink it gave me my energy back that had been zapped after not doing much exercise for 6 months!  This smoothie is going into our regular breakfast repertoire.

    This looks delicious! I love adding frozen banana to smoothies, it makes them so creamy! We’re still on the green smoothie train, but of course, there’s always a frozen banana in there! I love Body Pump – I’m going today so I might have to whip this up after my workout!

    This looks like the perfect way to get going after a weekday sleep-in, Vicki! I love that it has a lot more yoghurt and ice than milk, so I can imagine this one would be suuuper thick and icy! I love those little milk bottles too, by the way! I have the same ones and use them all the time. Daniel can’t really see the point of them (men!!) but I think they’re adorable 🙂

      The milk bottles are cute aren’t they? The smoothie is a great pick me up anytime, I’ve been making it a lot!
