Ruby & Rose G & T – 2017 G&T Challenge

Ruby & Rose G & T

We are having an extended family holiday in South Africa at the moment.  It is truly a spectacular country. Have you been? It’s bucket list material and we are loving it. In between side trips that you may or may not have been seeing via my Instagram or Facebook pages we have been staying with dear friends in Cape Town and are being very spoilt with great food, wine and the odd afternoon G&T. Very civilized indeed and of course great for keeping mozzies at bay so really it’s for medicinal purposes!

G&T’s with a side of Table Mountain!

We have been experimenting with different types of gin and different ways to make it. This has prompted me to, rather than make a new years resolution that I won’t keep, create a challenge for myself to try a new variation of G&T for each month of 2017. You are very welcome to join me in this challenge if you like I think it will be a particularly fun one, unless gin makes you cry and maybe you will want to go with vodka instead!!   Today’s choice, for the first in the challenge, is what we are now calling “Ruby & Rose G & T”.

My usual favourite gin is Hendricks that I love with just cucumber, ice & tonic but before I was introduced to Hendricks it was all about Tanquary and that what was used in this one (but any type you have will go just fine).

Ruby Rose G & T

 What you need: (per glass)

1 nip of gin

1 slice or ruby grapefruit

1 sprig of rosemary

handful of ice

tonic water

What you do:

Pour the gin into your glass and add the ruby grapefruit & rosemary sprig. Muddle the grapefruit & rosemary a bit into the gin to release the flavours.

Add the ice and fill to the top with tonic. Use the rosemary as a swizzle stick and enjoy.

In the interests of responsible drinking we had ours with a fabulous cheese platter and …

Nigella Lawson's Haloumi

Nigella Lawson’s Halloumi Bites which are delicious and I will definitely be making again and again – along with the Ruby & Rose G & T!.

Are you a G&T fan?  Are you still on holidays? Love halloumi? What’s on your travel bucket list?

How beautiful is South Africa? (And I’m not just saying that because I was born there!) It’s a big, fat yes to the haloumi and to the G and T. The rosemary and ruby grapefruit look like a winning combo from where I’m sitting!
