Tropical Pineapple Dip – a statement on any platter!

Tropical Pineapple Dip

Since moving to the Tropical North I’ve embraced all things pineapple (well the motif anyway as, if truth be told, I don’t actually like the taste very much) and you’ll find them in some shape or form in most rooms of our house. In fact it inspired Peregrination Gourmande to write this post after her stay with us. But this post is about a Tropical Pineapple Dip that I made as a bit of a joke when friends visited but it turned out to be ok – so much so that I even enjoyed it!

The first thing to note about this Pineapple Dip is that it’s authentically retro including the use of onion powder. It makes an impact in both looks and taste. It’s also very easy to make and because it can be made ahead it fits into my style of “easy entertaining” as well.

I cut a pineapple in half and scooped out the middle. Cut it like you would a mango and then use a spoon to scoop out the flesh.

Use the pineapple as the bowl for the dip

From there it’s a super simple process. I.e combine all the ingredients into a blender or Thermomix and blend until smooth. Put back into the pineapple and chill in the fridge until you are ready to serve.  It’s quite rich so you don’t need too much of it but it’s definitely a statement in a grazing platter!

For the left over half of the pineapple? Well that makes for a great Pina Colada or for a healthy option how about this Pineapple Ginger Juice?

Tropical Pineapple Dip

  • 250 g cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 pineapple, flesh only, scooped out of the pineapple and cut into chunks
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled

  1. Cut the pineapple in half, set aside one half and with the other cut 1/2 cm in from the edge in a grid pattern & scoop out the flesh.
  2. Put the pineapple flesh and all other ingredients into a blender (Thermomix Speed 7 / 8 Seconds) and blitz until smooth.
  3. Put the dip into the scooped out pineapple and chill in the fridge until ready to serve

As we are surrounded by pineapples up here we’ve also used them as vase’s before. This was one of the centerpieces at my daughters “Pineapple Flamingo Party”! As you do.

Hmm, good question – I just used the Masterfoods Onion Powder but maybe put in a quarter of a real onion – perhaps saute it first in the Thermomix and then add everything else in to blitz. Let me know how you go – it’s a bit of fun anyway.
